Hacienda El Carmen is located in the municipality of Ahualulco de Mercado, 70 km from the capital of the state. The most important tourist places to visit are the Tequila route and the Archaeological Site of Guachimontones, located in the municipality of Teuchitlan, Jalisco.
The Hacienda belonged to Francisco Merodio Velasco during the sixteenth century, who without having any descendants decided to inherit the property to a Catholic mendicant order called Los Carmelitos Descalzos. In the late 1950´s it was acquired by the Baeza family from Guadalajara, who decided to restore the Hacienda, converting it into a hotel, restaurant and tourist center. Hacienda el Carmen still belongs to the Baeza family.
Hacienda el Carmen was built in 1722 and still retains its colonial style, constructed with materials like: stone, quarry, adobe, brick, as well as different kind of woods (cedar, pine and mesquite) from the zone of Ameca & Tequila. The Hacienda´s clay tiles and floors are all hand painted.
Its architecture creates the right atmosphere to bring back old memories, showing our commitment to preserve the history of Mexico.
